Guidance for Candidate Use of GenAI in Hiring Process
At Prudential and PGIM, we recognize the growing role of generative AI (GenAI) and support its responsible use in the hiring process where appropriate.
Our evaluation process helps us get to know you as a candidate, your skills and your professional background—and how they align with our culture, the role you’re applying for and your future professional growth. To evaluate these qualities, we seek authentic responses directly from candidates rather than responses generated from AI. Below, we’ve outlined our guidance for the use of GenAI as a job seeker at Prudential and PGIM.
When is the use of GenAI acceptable as a Prudential or PGIM job seeker?
- Research and Insights: AI can help gather information about the company and industry, providing insights into the role you're applying for and suggesting questions you might ask the interviewer.
- Resume Enhancement: AI can assist in refining your resume and cover letter by suggesting improvements and ensuring that they align with the job description.
- Interview Prep: AI can simulate interview scenarios by asking typical interview questions. This allows you to practice your responses and get comfortable with the interview format.
Please be mindful that while AI can be an asset, there is potential for misrepresentation of skills and qualifications. It is essential to review AI-generated outputs for accuracy and authenticity.
When is the use of GenAI NOT acceptable as a Prudential or PGIM job seeker?
- The use of GenAI during the assessment and interview process is not permitted. We strive for both integrity and equity during the hiring process. As such, it is important that you, as a candidate, provide information throughout our process that accurately reflects your own unique skills and qualifications.
How can I use AI responsibly during the candidate application process?
- Review AI’s outputs carefully: If you as a candidate, choose to use AI tools, you should be sure to thoroughly review the generated content to confirm its accuracy. Candidates should also validate any third-party sources (not all information found on the internet is public domain/available to freely use) and double-check the information to make sure it reflects their qualifications correctly.
- Protect your personal data: Be cautious about sharing personally identifiable information (PII) or sensitive data with AI tools. Your privacy and data security are important to us, so we encourage you to avoid inputting sensitive information into AI platforms.
- Adhering to ethical guidelines: Prudential and PGIM are committed to a fair and transparent hiring process. You as a candidate are responsible for making sure any information submitted via your application process is accurate. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of AI to misrepresent your qualifications or create false documents.
No matter what role you’re applying for, we’re looking for your original thinking and problem-solving skills.
Prudential and PGIM reserve the right to remove any candidate from the selection process at any stage if we determine that there has been a misrepresentation of qualifications or skills, impermissible use of Generative AI tools in the assessment or interview process, or any other violation of this guidance.
Prudential’s Use of AI in the Recruitment Process
At Prudential, we leverage technology thoughtfully to support a fair and efficient hiring experience. As tools like artificial intelligence (AI) continue to evolve, we routinely review our practices to remain aligned with applicable laws and to uphold our commitment to equity in our recruitment process.
We may use AI‑enabled tools in limited ways—such as drafting and refining job descriptions or supporting interview scheduling—to streamline certain steps and improve consistency. However, these tools do not determine outcomes or replace human judgment.
We recognize both the promise and limitations of AI. Our Talent Acquisition team uses AI as a supplement to human expertise, not a replacement for it. All hiring decisions at Prudential are made with meaningful human involvement, judgment, and oversight.
For us, AI serves as a partner that helps our teams work more efficiently, while people remain at the heart of every decision we make.
